Ending an Eventful Summer
More fun at the Arboretum!
Thank you to the Arboretum for hosting us again in July and allowing the students to experience new exciting classes! The older students learned about renewable energy, its sources, and limits. The younger students participated in a class about trees; learning all the amazing ways trees benefit their surrounding environment and species. And of course, a field trip isn’t complete without some free discovery time at the Exploration Center! 🙂
Personal Motif Medallion Workshop
The Personal Motif Medallion Art Workshop was a huge success! Students learned about medallions found inside Spiro Mounds in Oklahoma by looking at images of shapes and symbols carved into them by indigenous people. Then, they created their own using play dough, rocks, buttons, and really cool tools! Each student’s creativity and personality shines through their medallions. <3
Natural Element Tapestry Workshop
Another amazing workshop put together by the wonderful DMA team. Inspired by the Rooted exhibit, the workshop was centered around the four natural elements: fire, air, earth, and water. Student began by selecting the element that most resonates with them. Then, using colorful paper, stampers, stickers and tons of creativity, students created beautiful collages to represent their element.
Awards Ceremony
To recognize the students’ accomplishments, Heart House threw a graduation and award ceremony. Students each won a unique superlative award based on their goals and personality, from “most likely to be an aerospace engineer” to “most likely to challenge you to a game of Uno.” Students were excited to walk up to the podium to receive their awards to the sound of Pomp and Circumstance!
Field Day
On the last day of program, Heart House hosted a Field Day with tons of fun activities! Students competed in a sponge relay race, experimented with Coke and Mentos, and enjoyed snacks brought by Sprouts Farmers Market. Thanks to Richemont volunteers for facilitating activities and Sprouts for all the delicious food!
THANK YOU, VICKERY PARK BRANCH LIBRARY!
This summer would not have been possible without the generosity of the Vickery Park Branch Library in making the space available to us and the wonderful staff that made Heart House feel so welcome.
Thank you!
North Texas Giving Day is coming soon!
Early bird giving starts September 1st and you can continue to give until September 22nd.
