A place for moving refugee children from chaos to calm

AN EDUCATION NON-PROFIT

Helping refugee kids

Heart House is an education non-profit that serves refugee children with a holistic after-school and summer program utilizing social emotional learning to help them thrive in their new community. We’re located in the same residential areas as the families we help, and offer a culturally sensitive approach to each child’s needs. In short, we’re a place that moves the most vulnerable kids from a state of chaos to a sense of calm.

Ella’s story

Every day, when she arrived after school, Ella was despondent and disengaged, hungry and afraid. When we tried to connect with her, she would run to the corners and not speak. When our Heart House team started one-on-one play therapy twice a week, she slowly opened up. Toys were her outlet, and so she would tell stories through her favorite doll.
