Meet Ms. Mojgan and her K-2nd Class
Ms. Mojgan has officially completed her first month as a Heart House teacher! Meet Mojgan Houshmand Sarvestani, our Kindergarten through 2nd grade teacher. Mojgan has experience teaching Kindergarten in Iran, and we are so excited for her to be a part of our team! Read on below to see what our K-2nd class was up to this month.
Welcome to the Weather Channel with our Mini-Meteorologists! 🌞
Students learned about the different types of weather and how to identify them. In this activity, students chose a specific type of weather and pretended to be meteorologists forecasting the weather to an audience of their classmates and teachers. Students also got to share their favorite type of weather and why they like it!
Learning Letters
Our Kindergartners, 1st & 2nd graders practiced learning the letters of the alphabet by making the shapes of the letters with their bodies! The students loved getting to be silly while improving their reading skills. Can you guess what letter they’re making?
Building Classroom Community
This month, Ms. Manju’s 3rd-5th grade class worked on creating rules and expectations for the classroom. Students shared how they wanted to be treated and how they wanted to feel at Heart House.
Taking part in creating classroom rules gives students the power to use their voice to better their community.
Students also practiced mindfulness and conflict resolution; learning how to resolve peer conflict positively and independently.
📝 Homework and Reading Time 📚
Every day, students in all grades are given time to collaborate with their teachers and fellow students on homework and school assignments. If students do not have homework, they spend this time reading a book of their choice independently, with a classmate, or with one of our volunteers.
