2018 Heart of a Champion Luncheon

To Soar, A mural by the children of Heart House Dallas

“To Soar” Heart House student mural project created by the children of Heart House with Gina Marie Dunn and Kim Mauser of Align Studios.

Tuesday, June 5th
11:30 – 1:00pm
Dallas Country Club

4155 Mockingbird Lane
Dallas, Texas

“To Soar” embodies dreams we have for Heart House students – for them to move out of chaos, and into calm, and to reach beyond their dreams.

Heart House focuses on children’s social emotional health as a core part of our strategy rather than as an incidental part of the program.

Each year the Heart of a Champion Luncheon draws 300 community leaders and partners, philanthropists, local business, and friends of Heart House to celebrate honorees who have helped to uplift the lives of the 130+ refugee and underprivileged children of Vickery Meadow.

ABOUT HEART HOUSE

Heart House provides safety, education and opportunity to refugee and underprivileged children. Our vision is to use education as a catalyst to combat poverty and level the playing field for some of the most vulnerable children in our city, while assisting the family as a whole.

Through the Head, Heart, and Hands (H3) program, students receive academic support, counseling and play therapy to increase their opportunities for success in school and beyond. “H3 for the Head” provides homework assistance and learning centers focused on reading, writing, math, science, social studies, art and technology. “H3 for the Heart” utilizes enrichment activities, such as outdoor play and social-emotional education (play therapy, social clubs, and cognitive behavioral therapy). “H3 for the Hands” offers a leadership program, cultural potlucks, and service projects designed to grow hearts and hands that give back to the community.

Each year, we serve 130 K-8th grade students, whose families hail from countries such as Malaysia, Syria, Iran, Myanmar, Mexico, Eritrea, Democratic Republic of Congo, and El Salvador, who now call Dallas home. Your support will mean long-lasting impact on the lives of the children we serve.
